In the beginning, The Siri Gunaratane Pirivena was established in Kinihirikanda Rajamaha Viharaya and was later moved to Maha Kekirawa, this allows the pirivena to take advantage in both transportation and communication.
The pirivena and its Dhamma School, with a strength of around 600 students, offers high quality education to young samanera Bhikku and to the children of several surrounding villages. The medium of instruction is Sinhala, but English and Tamils are taught as second languages starting from grade five.
